The Dare-to-die Corps Rushed to the Himalayas

On the morning of July 25, 2008, one of the biggest landslides since 1965 occurred in the “Golden Path” that connects economic and trade exchanges between China and Nepal – China-Nepal Highway, causing over 400 cars trapped.

The landslide happened in rainy seasons, along with cosntant rainstorms and debris flow, which paralyzed the traffic for two months. In addition, the debris flow is located in the Zhameila mountain section of China-Nepal Highway, 28 km from Nyalam County of Xizang Province, 2 km from Xizang Province's largest first level land trading port - Zhangmu Port, and 10 km from Friendship Bridge at China-Nepal boader. Most importantly, there’s only one road from China to Nepal. Therefore, Ministry of Transport of China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Department of Transport of Xizang Province attached great importance to rescue and relief work, and mainstream media like CCTV focused on the disaster.

As soon as the disaster occured, OST organized staff memebers to work on the rescue job once receiving the rescue task from Department of Transport of Xizang Province. After studying the drwaing map, the General Manager thought slope protection is not applicable to the terrain there. But out of social responsibility, OST members threw themselves into the rescue work although there’s no need on the company’s products. The OST rescue team needed to avoid debris flow and landslide,  and local poisonous insects and snakes. After 45-day fight, OST rescue team completed the task and receives high praise from Department of Transport of Xizang Province.
