Project Overview:

Lingshan Road is built along the mountain with its right side against the mountain slope. The slope is half-cutting and half embankment. Near the construction site, the altitude is about 900m, slope height about 35m, inclination angle 60°-70 °. The slope is mild with a lot of broken rocks, partly gravelly soil and no gully on the surface .The slope top is slightly gentle with flourishing vegetation on the top and both sides of the slope.

Treatment Scheme:

Considering economy, safety and installation place, it is decided to choose covered-type drapery system with 500kJ protection level.

Treatment Effect:

The project was completed by the end of July 2015, covering protection areas of 3000 m2. The designed protection levelwas 500kJ, while theactual protection capacity was3000kJdue to partial small collapse. A rock weighing about 200kg was found on August 2nd, 2015. The drapery system performed good protection and the whole system remained intact.

On September 2nd, 2015, a heavy rains triggeredrockfall collapse in Lingshan Road section. The collapse amount was about 8 cubic meterswith a total weight of about 20000kg. It was found that the rock fell from 42.5m height, weighing about 5000kg and impact the mountain at the height of 28.5m, triggering the collapse of about 15000kg rockfall to the bottom of the drapery system. Calculating according to E=(m1g1h1+m2g2h2) *1-u (m1=500kg,m2=15000kg,h1=42.5m,h2=28.5m, reduction factor of falling rocks collision with mountain u is 0.5), the total impact energy was about 3200kJ, and the drapery system effectively protected the road. On September 6th, it only took one hour for three workers to clean rocks and maintain the system.
