Project overview

The slope ratio of Turpan-Kashgar railway K277+684-805 (upper exit of Xinguang tunnel) is 1:0.4, with mountain height about 800 m. The bedrock at the top of the slope is naked with broken rock mass. Due to the steep slope, broken bedrock and rock joint development, rocks are prone to fall on the railway. Moreover, there are intertwined railways at the top of tunnel entrance, which is located at the lowest layer of multi-tier protection, and some small rocks can splash and bounce over the protection net to potentially threat the railway, and endanger driving safety, thus a necessity to install flexible steel-structure shed tunnel.

Protection effect

The flexible steel-structure shed tunnel is completed at the end of August, 2012, which successfully prevented falling rocks from invasion for many times within 3-year operation with obvious protection effects and ensured normal operation of Turpan-Kashgar Railway, effectively reducing labor intensity of railway maintenance and inspection. Meanwhile, it exerted a minimum influence on rocks around the railway and protected natural environment.
