From July 31th to August 2nd, 2023, Mentougou District of Beijing suffered from the "rare in a hundred year" heavy rainfall. In a short period of time, the rainfall caused landslides, washed out the roads, disrupted the transportation. The safety of people's lives and property was seriously threatened and our construction team was also severely trapped.

　　Disaster situation

　　After three days of continuous heavy rain, the villages were flooded, the power, transportation and communication were cut off, 6 site engineers and 54 workers lost contact. Our company was extremely anxious for the safety of the workers and the site engineers.

　　At 4:30PM on August 3rd, a good news came from the disaster area! Zhang Qiang, vice minister of engineering department, reported that all of our construction team members were safe through satellite phone. The stone that had weighed on everyone's heart finally fell to the ground

　　On August 4th, Mr Lv, the director of OST, attached great importance to disaster and went to the site to organize and command the flood rescue personally. When learing that the vice minister of the engineering department Zhang Qiang, the site engineers Lan Yanfeng, Liang Jian, Tang Wei, Jiang Wanjian and Luo Tao were all insisted on flood rescue in the disaster zone, Mr. Lv highly praised them:“ great construction team! In the flood rescue, your practical actions show your loyalty, responsibility, selfless and brave, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you on behalf of OST.”

　　1.Duty Performance

　　Zhang Qiang, Vice minister of the engineering Department, was guiding the work of Fengsha Line in the west section of Beijin on July 30th, he felt that a storm was coming by experience according to the red rainstorm alert. He immediately organized the site engineers Lan Yanfeng, Jiang Wanjian, Liang Jian, Luo Tao and Tang Wei to hold an emergency meeting to study the risk of disaster, make an emergency precautionary plan, issue a stop-work order and order the sit engineers to organize the workers to quickly evacuate from the construction site. By 12 o'clock on July 31st, all the workers of the construction site moved to the safe area. When the site engineers Luo Tao lost 30 hours, Minister Zhang organized 5 site engineers to find the whereabouts of Luo Tao. They hiked in the Fengsha line, trekked in the mountain roads buried by the mudslides, round-trip to the various construction sites of Zhaitang town and Xiangyangkou village. After dozens of hours, they found Luotao and reported the rescue situation to the company by satellite phone.

　　2. Overcome the difficulties together

　　· On the morning of July 31st, the whole village of Xiangyangkou had been inundated by flood, the roads were interrupted, water, electricity and communication were cut off and the disaster situation could not be delivered to the outside. Mr. Shi, the mayor of Zhaitang town， requested OST construction team to help the villagers of Xiangyangkou village to evacuate and transfer. Minister Zhang immediately ordered Luo Tao to help the mayor Shi to report the disaster situation to the outside. Luo Tao immediately accepted the instruction and told the mayor Shi, "I am young, let me go ahead." Luotao take care of Shi carefully all the way. He griped Shi’s arm to walk through the slippery road, carried Shi to walk through the deep water section.

　　In the evening, when the temperature dropped, he took off his clothes and put them on Shi . They round-trip in kinds of landslides, rockfalls, mudslides and other disaster sites for more than dozens of kilometers. Apart 100 meters from the Yanhecheng checkpoint, the raging flood inundated the road and can not continue to move ahead, the mayor Shi immediately decided to return back to ensure their safety. On the way back, the rain was getting heavier and heavier, the water from the mountain mixed with mud was getting bigger and bigger. The road was flooded and silted up to one meter. At the time of the difficulty, Luo Tao found two ravines convergence of a relatively safe cabin with high terrain for temporary rest. They ate nothing for a whole day and all the clothes were wet . They felt so exhausted and decided to rest in the cabin for the night. Luckily, they found three packages of expired instant noodles in the cabin. They ate the noodles, cupped their hands to catch the rainwater flowing from the roof to drink. At night, the heavy rain was still falling, the temperature was getting lower and lower, the rumbling sound came from the mountain collapse from time to time. Enduring hunger, cold and tiredness, Luotao set the cell phone alarm clock to half an hour to ring to observe the flash floods to make sure they can evacuate at any time when the disaster came. That was how they got through a rough night.

　　On the morning of August 1, Luo Tao and Mayor Shi moved toward the Yanhecheng station once again but the flood still blocked the way to get back. After witnessing the damage to the Yanhecheng Station, they returned to Xiangyangkou Village at 6:00 p.m. to meet Minister Zhang. Luo Tao's performance was highly praised by government leaders.

　　3. Heartwarming stories of rescue

　　"Follow me, I will not left anyone," Jiang Wanjian loudly shouted when he evacuated the trapped people.

　　At 6:00 am on Aug 1st, in accordance with the tasks set out in the emergency meeting of Minister Zhang, Jiang Wanjian and Tang Wei traveled to the next construction site after they completed the evacuation of Jiuyuan’s Villagers. Around 12:15 p.m. they traveled to Zhuwo village, transferred 8 workers to the village committee. After pacifying the workers, they continued their rescue journey. At that time, both of them had worn out their feet but they insisted in moving ahead enduring the pain. They knew that they were OST’s employees and what the responsibilities and obligations they carried . At 7:20 p.m., they traveled to k45+600 Fujiatai Village, and reported the disaster situation of Zhuwo Village to the leaders of Yanchi Town in time, and were appreciated by the leaders of the town. At that time, it was getting dark. Tired and hungry made them unable to move forward, then they had a rest in the tunnel for the night.

　　On the morning of August 2nd, they continue to move forward with an old man’s instruction to his son. When they arrived at the Yanchi Station, they crossed the tunnel in the dark by holding on the wall as their flashlights were out of electricity. Later, they met two refugees who said they had not eaten anything for two days, so they gave them the little food they had left and continued their journey with hunger and thirst. Fortunately, when they came to Anjiazhuang village, they met the airdrop of food, they picked up two bottles of water and two pcs of bread to feed their hunger, and then helped the stranded train passengers in Anjiazhuang station carried their luggage. At about 5:00 p.m, they traveled to Fengsha Line K23 and came to the village where Jiang Wanjian's construction team stayed.The villagers and the village suffered seriously casualties. They immediately organized the construction workers to assist the villagers to clean up the disaster site and help to resettle the villagers. The villagers were grateful to them for what they did. Jiang Wanjian and Tang Wei kept walking in the darkness for about 2 kilometers and found the network signal eventually, they immediately reported the peace to the company and help the old man to pass the message to his son.

　　Breaking Through

　　4. Take one for the team

　　Lan Yanfeng's family made an appointment for an operation on August 2. He had planned to return to take care of his family on July 31. When the rainstorm came, the communication was interrupted and lost contact with the outside world, he endured the guilt of his family and firmly said, "I will get back until the disaster is over!" Lan Yanfeng took one for the team and insisted in the front line of the disaster rescue. What he did is deeply admired by everyone.

　· 5. Merciless flood, Sincere Friendship

　　In the days of no electricity, no signal and lack of food, after settling the construction team into safe place, minister Zhang, Liang Jian and Lan Yanfeng climb the mountain and wade for 12 hours to Zhaitang town, reported the disaster situation to the local government, and communicated with the company via satellite phone. When they learned that Luo Tao was lost, they searched for him along the way immediately. Liang Jian always rushed in front of the rescuing, stepping on mud, cutting trees to open the way for everyone, helping to carry the personal belongings. After Luo Tao returned to Xiangyangkou village, they evacuated the trapped villagers away from the disaster area. On their way to the rescue headquarter, they helped local villagers to transfer and investigate the damage to the railway along the railway line. After hiking fro 7 hours, they found the rescue headquarter and got the help . After 3 consecutive days of running around, their willpower was honed again. When they learned that Xiao Shuaihu, the colleague of the company, was waiting for them, they felt so warm and happy as the company's leaders had always been concerned about them.

　　In the face of the devastating flood in Mentougou District of Beijing, the OST construction team had performed their duties and completed their tasks, which is worthy of learning and commendation. Let's give them a thumbs up!
